The daughter of an American GI and a German mother, I grew up in Tuscaloosa, AL, and Frankfurt, Germany. I earned an M.A. degree at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt, Germany, and a Ph.D. at the University of Kansas—both in American Studies. Before returning to graduate school for my Ph.D., I spent eight years working in the Information Technology industry as a consultant, trainer, and customer liaison. In 2014, I moved back to Alabama to join the History Department at Auburn University.
I write about “skilled” migrants and teach twentieth-century United States History in the global context at Auburn University. In addition to presenting and publishing in national and international academic settings, I give public lectures, participate in podcasts, and consult for radio and TV broadcasts.
